Email Templates

Email templates are the reusable designs used by automations and broadcasts. Build them visually using content blocks, or generate them instantly with AI.

Creating a template

Go to Library → My Emails → New template. Give it a name (internal reference only) and a subject line. Then build the email body using the block editor on the left.

Content blocks

Templates are built from a stack of blocks. Add, reorder, and remove blocks in the left panel. The preview updates live.

Banner

A full-width colour header at the top of the email. Choose a background colour, title, optional subtitle, and a decorative pattern (wave, dots, grid, blob, or clean). The banner is always the first block and renders edge-to-edge.

Heading

An H1, H2, or H3 heading. Set the text, heading level, and alignment (left, centre, right).

Text

A rich paragraph block. Supports alignment. Use this for the main body copy of your email.

Button

A call-to-action button with a label, URL, alignment, background colour, and text colour. If you leave the text colour blank, it is automatically derived from the button background (dark button → white text; light button → dark text).

Image

An image block with a source URL, alt text, and alignment. Images are linked in by URL — host them on your own CDN or image host.

Divider

A thin horizontal rule for visually separating sections of content.

Spacer

An invisible block that adds vertical whitespace. Set the height in pixels.

Personalisation variables

Use double-brace syntax anywhere in the subject or body to insert lead-specific values at send time:

VariableResolves to
{{lead.name}}Lead's name (from form field "name" or "firstName"), falls back to email
{{lead.email}}Lead's email address
{{lead.phone}}Lead's phone number
{{lead.widget}}Name of the widget this lead came from
{{lead.data.fieldName}}Any custom form field by its key

Safe substitution

Variables that don't match any lead field are replaced with an empty string — the email still sends cleanly. All substituted values are HTML-escaped to prevent layout breakage.

Subject line

The subject field supports the same {{variable}} syntax as the body. Example: Welcome to {{lead.widget}}, {{lead.name}}!

Generating templates with AI

Click ✨ Generate with AI in the template editor's sidebar. Describe the email you want in plain English:

"Welcome email for new home buyer leads. Warm and professional tone. CTA to book a free consultation."

The AI writes the subject line, populates a banner block with the right colour, and fills in heading, body copy, and a button — all using your description as context. You can edit any block after generation.

AI uses Claude Sonnet

Generating templates calls the Anthropic Claude API. Make sure your ANTHROPIC_API_KEY environment variable is set.

Previewing

The right panel shows a live email preview as you build. Variable placeholders like {{lead.name}} are shown as-is in the preview — they are substituted with real lead data at send time.

Editing existing templates

Go to Library → My Emails and click any template to open the editor. Changes take effect for future sends only — emails already sent are not retroactively changed.

Deleting templates used by a broadcast

If you delete a template that a broadcast draft is using, the draft will show "Template deleted" and the Send button will be disabled. Create a new template and start a new broadcast draft.
